🐈 Can My Cat Eat Pork?

Pork is a good source of animal protein, B vitamins (especially thiamine, which is essential for cats), and minerals like selenium and zinc. Lean cuts like pork loin or tenderloin are the best options. However, pork is fattier than chicken or turkey, so it should be served in moderation to prevent weight gain and reduce the risk of pancreatitis. The critical rule is thorough cooking — raw pork can carry Trichinella parasites and Toxoplasma gondii, both of which can cause serious illness in cats. Processed pork products (bacon, ham, sausage) are loaded with salt, preservatives, and seasonings that are harmful to cats. Never give pork cooked with onion, garlic, or heavy spices.

Cook lean pork thoroughly (internal temp 145°F/63°C minimum). Let cool, then cut into small, bite-sized pieces. Remove all bones, fat, and skin. Serve plain — no seasoning, sauce, or marinade. A few small pieces as an occasional treat.

Better protein options for cats: plain cooked chicken breast (leaner), cooked turkey, cooked salmon (omega-3 benefits), and cooked shrimp. These all provide excellent protein with less fat than pork.
